May has started cool and wet, but how is the forecast shaping up for the Bank Holiday weekend?

Today is set to have heavy, blustery showers from the northwest affecting all parts, with the risk of hail and thunder. Some sunny spells but feeling cool in the strong wind. Maximum Temperature 13C.

One or two showers will linger tonight with an odd heavy one. Clear spells will develop but it will be frost free overnight. Minimum Temperature 5C.

It will be a drier and brighter day on Wednesday with some decent sunny spells. The northwesterly wind will stay fresh, especially along the coast and over high ground. Maximum Temperature 16C.

The outlook for Thursday to Saturday is for dry and bright weather with patchy cloud. The cloud will thicken into Friday with odd spots of rain possible. Brighter on Saturday, perhaps with a light shower or two.

High pressure looks likely to build in from the west from Saturday giving dry, bright conditions for much of the country with only some patchy light rain likely in places as a weak frontal system sinks south. Through the following week, a ridge of high pressure is likely to be maintained over the UK.

This should bring a good deal of dry and settled weather across most parts, with varying amounts of cloud, the best of the drier conditions in the southwest.
