A JEWISH refugee who escaped Nazi persecution and now lives in Somerset is featured in a film about the Second World War.
The film, which also includes interviews with soldiers who fought in Normandy, a Women’s Land Army recruit and an Army driver who later worked in post-War Germany – all of them Somerset residents.
It is part of the War Stories exhibition in the Museum of Somerset, Taunton, that started on Monday Over 100 guests attended a launch event in Taunton Castle to watch a sequence of films created by the South West Heritage Trust to mark the 70th anniversary of VE Day, when the war in Europe ended.
At the launch, contributors met other interviewees who participated in the project and talked to history students from The Castle School, Taunton.
Tom Mayberry, chief executive of the South West Heritage Trust, said: “The project has been very important and has ensured that Somerset people’s experiences of the war have been preserved for the future.
“The exhibition – (which runs for the rest of the year) - is a fine tribute to a remarkable generation.”
