THIS is the scene in Stoney Furlong, north Taunton this morning, Friday, June 26.

More travellers have moved onto the site near Lyngford Park Primary School.

Neighbour John Fish has branded the situation "unacceptable" after travellers first occupied the site a week ago.

He said: "During the night yet more travellers have moved onto the field - this is now completely unacceptable."

He claims trees and shrubs have been "attacked" and the field has been "used as an open sewer".

He added: "Enough is now enough. They will not be gone by the weekend that is now clearly evident. Some of the occupiers have been present now for seven days.

"We the residents of this area are now clearly worried for our homes and our own safety.

"We want these people removed today. Not a day longer. Tension in the area is now building and I fear that tensions will boil over if they are not moved before the weekend."

A Taunton Deane Council spokeswoman said the authority is aware of "a small group of travellers on the land".

She added: "Officers have visited the site and have served initial notices requesting the group to leave.

"The site will be checked again and, if they have not left, a further formal notice will be served."
