A PRIMARY school in Taunton is celebrating after being awarded it's first Good from Oftsed in over ten years.

Cheddon Fitzpaine School converted to an academy back in 2013 after being put in Special Measures.

But now inspectors have praised the school's turn around.

Headteacher Duncan Gordon said: "Before we were placed in special measures and before the conversion, we had only been graded as Satisfactory, and this is the first Good we've had in 12 years or so.

"It was a very positive experience and I'm delighted because the report praises all of the staff and governors, not just one person, which is really important because everyone has worked hard and this is a reflection of that.

"Parents have told me how pleased they are and we have started to see an increase in the number of parents enquiring about sending their children here.

"We really are just so delighted, a lot of the staff were here when the school was placed in special measures so it's great to see that the hard work is paying off."

And the praise doesn't stop there, Duncan said the inspector from Ofsted said he could the progress continuing to result in an Outstanding grade when they return in a few years.

He added: "We've got our SIAMS inspection soon which all church schools go through and then we'll just be looking to improve on our hard work.

"We're happy and we know that the children are happy here but to have the outside seal is just wonderful."
