A SPONSORED 24 hour activity event to raise money to repair the roof at Taunton's YMCA has raised around £1,000.

Individuals and groups of all ages took part in the event earlier this month to raise money for the centre.

Taunton Mayor Marcia Hill and husband Julian paid a visit, meeting some of the participants and getting stuck in.

In the evening a squash tournament was held with the winner Phil Cummins receiving a certificate and trophy.

Joy Garland, centre manager at Taunton YMCA said “We are extremely grateful to everyone who got sponsored, staff who stayed the distance and others who gave their time and donations to help support the roof repairs.

"It was a fantastic achievement which raised around £1,000.”
