THE oldest street in Taunton is in line for a national award after turning its fortunes round and luring back shoppers.

You could help Bath Place win a share of £80,000 kitty after it was among three shortlisted in the local centre category of the Great British High Street competition, run by the Department for Communities and Local Government.

The accolade comes a week after Bath Place was judged as “thriving” in the South West in Bloom awards.

Bath Place Traders Association secretary Kate Jowsey said: “We’d been suffering from lack of awareness and fewer people than before were coming here, while there were a number of empty shops.

“We decided to focus on making things happen and trying to drive shoppers back.”

A series of initiatives including as yarnbombing, spot the oddity and traders designing their own flags to fly outside their shops has led to customers returning, while empty shops have now been occupied.

You can help Bath Place win their category and a share of the £80,000 worth of prizes, which includes expert training from Google by casting your vote via thegreatbritishhighstreet.co.uk or on Facebook.
