A CHURCH and charity is making sure that more than 100 children from the Taunton area who might not otherwise receive a gift this Christmas will wake up to presents on Christmas Day.

Taunton Salvation Army is encouraging people to add an extra toy to their shopping list so that families struggling to buy a gift for their children can ensure there is a small surprise under their Christmas tree this year.

Lieutenant Theresa Torr said: “The Salvation Army works throughout the year to provide compassionate help and practical support to people who are vulnerable or in need. At Christmas, when many are enjoying the celebrations on offer, others are struggling to make ends meet.

“Each year, in addition to the work carried out in the community, The Salvation Army runs a Christmas Present Appeal to ensure no child goes without a gift at Christmas. We’re grateful for the support from our community, who selflessly donate toys each year.”

People are invited to drop a new unused toy for a child, from a new born to 16-year-olds, to the Superdrug stores in Taunton and Wellington from November 13 until December 11.

Gifts can include anything from soft and educational toys for the very youngest child, to games, toys and accessories for older children.

All donations are welcome, but food items and used products are not appropriate for this appeal.
