SIMON Tall, aged ten, has won a silver medal for sparring in a national martial arts competition.

Simon, a pupil at Staplegrove Primary School, performed strongly throughout the rounds against 15 other competitors in the highest belt category to finish runner-up in The Matt Fiddes National Championship 2015.

His coach Ian Hooper said: “We are delighted that Simon’s hard work and dedication has paid off.

“Simon really enjoys his martial arts classes, and the national competition was a great opportunity for him to show what he can do.”

Simon has been learning martial arts since he was five and is currently a deputy black belt, working towards gaining his first dan black belt next year and continuing his progress in competitions.

He attends the Matt Fiddes Martial Arts Club in Taunton, meeting at 6pm on Thursdays at St George’s Catholic Church Hall, in Mountway.
