A CHORAL extravaganza is taking place at Taunton School next month featuring musicians from all over the South West.

Vaughan Williams’ Hodie is being performed in the TS Sports Hall featuring a choir of 130 singers and a full professional orchestra of 65 players.

The TS Choral Society has also invited parents, choirs and any singers in the community to take part in the event on Sunday, December 6th (7pm).

Director of Music, Mr Mark Cracknell, said: “Vaughan Williams’ Christmas Cantata Hodie (This Day) is a wonderful telling of the nativity story set to music with words taken from the Bible and poetry by Milton, Hardy and George Herbert.

“This large-scale seasonal work will be the climax to the concert, featuring, in the first half, Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, Song of the Spirit by Karl Jenkins - performed by children from primary and prep schools - and movements from Elgar’s Cello Concerto and Weber’s Concertino for Clarinet and Orchestra.

“This is a truly ambitious and exciting concert showcasing talented musicians from around the South West with the Taunton School Choral Society.”

Tickets for the performance are £10 (adults) and £5 (students) and are available on-line from www.tauntonboxoffice.co.uk
