FIRE crews were called twice to incidents on the M5 today, between Taunton and Wellington.

The first, a car fire between junctions 25 and 26 on M5, was at 8.36am.

Two fire crews attended the scene after multiple calls from the public and one car was confirmed as being 'well alight'.

When crews had finished extinguishing the fire, the car was 50% severely damaged by the flames.

The second call-out came this evening at 6.13pm after a crash on the M5 northbound between junctions 25 and 26.

Five crews were sent to the incident, two from Wellington, two from Bridgwater and one from Taunton.

A statement from the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "On arrival the crews found a car that had left the roadway with one male on the roof.

"The crews used a triple extension ladder to rescue the male and administered first aid."
