SOMERSET is uniting behind your County Gazette’s 180th anniversary – utilising all of their skills to celebrate the newspaper.

Among readers joining in the fun is Colin Phillips, from Taunton, who has penned a poem in honour of his favourite newspaper.

Our Gazette

I’d like to bet that our Gazette is the best read you’ll ever get
It’s passed the test through many years, and for that fact I give three cheers.
We readers know that it informs, from county fetes to massive storms
Its range is wide, topics abound, all local items can be found.
Format has changed, much better now. I couldn’t be without somehow
I’d like to praise the paper’s staff, who entertain and make us laugh.
180 years have come and gone, I really hope it carries on
For charities much cash you’ve raised, and for this deed you must be praised.
And as this poem starts to suck, I’d like to wish you all good luck.

We are running a series of initiatives throughout the year to mark our landmark anniversary, as well as an ambitious appeal, hoping to raise £180,000 for St Margaret’s Hospice.
