YOUNGSTERS and staff at Bishops Lydeard Pre School are celebrating after receiving a Good Ofsted report.

The inspection, done in May this year, showed that all sections including leadership and management, teaching quality and welfare, were all rated well.

The previous inspection in 2012 gave the pre school a satisfactory outcome, and so staff are proud at the changes made.

Danna Geen, chairman of the committee who run Bishops Lydeard Preschool, said: "After a run of satisfactory Ofsted reports, the staff and committee have worked hard together to make the setting one to be desired.

"We are proud to say we are now on the way there after being awarded with a Good outcome on our last Ofsted inspection.

"We are excited and keen to share the news."

A summary of the report states that there is strong support and good systems to monitor the children's' development.

It reads: "The manager and staff receive strong support from the committee.

"They work together well to evaluate the pre-school.

"Staff implement new systems well to raise the quality of provision and provide good outcomes for children."

The report also states that regular observations are carried out.

It adds: "Staff carry out regular observations of children's achievements and use the information well to plan interesting activities that motivate children to take part.

"Staff know the children well and plan for individual needs.

"Children make good progress from their starting points.

"The manager has good systems to monitor children's overall development.

"She identifies any gaps in their learning and ensures that children receive any additional support to help them catch up."

The pre-school is not yet outstanding, according to the report, because some children do not fully engage.

The report reads: "Some children do not fully engage in the same level of highly challenging activities as others.

"Staff do not maximise opportunities to promote children's understanding of the natural world further through their play."

The inspector, Elaine Douglas, observed activities and the quality of teaching indoors outdoors.
