A CHILD, woman and dog had to be cut be free from a car after it overturned and crashed into a hedge.

The woman and the eight-year-old boy have been taken to hospital, folloowing the crash on Blagdon Hill just after 11.30am this morning. 

The woman and child were medically and physically trapped, and a rescue tender, two fire engines, police, the ambylance service and a vet were called to assist. 

Fire crews set to work stabilising the vehicle, before removing one of the doors with hydraulic cutting equipment, in order to extricate the casualties first, followed by the dog, who was trapped by its legs.

A police dog handler was called to take care of the dog while the two people were taken to hospital.

A spokesperson for South West Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 11.30am to reports of a single vehicle collision where a car had gone onto its roof.

"Two people were taken to Musgrove Park Hospital (in Taunton).

"Their injuries are not described as life-threatening."
