A FUN day was held in Goodland Gardens to raise awareness for cerebral palsy.

On Saturday, Ben White and his friend Kelly Durdan organised the event to raise awareness for the condition.

Ben, aged 30, of Darby Way, Bishops Lydeard, says that people can be rude to him because of his condition. He explained that sometimes people talk over him, or treat him like he is a child.

One of the worst incidents was when he was enjoying a drink in the pub and some strangers told his friends it was disgusting that they allowed him to drink alcohol.

This encouraged him to start a Facebook campaign entitled 'See me not my chair'. The fun day event was held as part of his campaign.

From 11am until 4pm, the family fun day drew in the crowds and the sun as stalls with cakes, books, sweets and more lined the park to help raise money and awareness.

Miss Durdan said: "The day went really well and was a good event.

"I think we definitely got our point across and it was great we had some sunshine.

"Ben had a really lovely day and he said he wants to host another event near Christmas time."

The total amount of funds raised from the fun day has not yet been confirmed.

Ben hopes to raise enough money to buy a wheelchair for someone in need as well as spreading the message that he is no different to anyone else.
