TAUNTON is already getting into the carnival spirit with a host of daytime activities.

On Castle Green and Goodland Gardens a range of activities are taking place to kick-start the day's fun and fundraising.

The 2016 Carnival Queen, Carly Chapman, is around giving the activities her royal blessing.

From historic vehicles to face painting, visitors are preparing for a day of carnival fun.

Treasurer, Roz Swinburne, said: “Our main charity this year is Stand Against Violence. We’re happy to be supporting them in their tenth year.

"They are included in our daytime activities on Castle Green so come along and find out more about them.

"During the evening Procession there will be dozens of official collectors on the ground.

"Please empty your pockets and give them a busy and successful night.

"The reward for performers and event organisers alike is to see all the collecting tins full and piles of coins on the lorries.

"Show your appreciation by getting rid of all that loose change you’ve been keeping since last October.

"If everyone put £1 or 50p coins into the collection we’d easily have a record year.

"Of course we don’t mind what coins or notes come our way but we do need a lot of them please.

"We’re happy if it takes us all day Sunday to count it all.”

The town centre will be closed to traffic from 6.30pm this evening and the procession will begin at 7pm.
