POLICE have seized a clown mask from a youth scaring children in Taunton town centre.

And anyone else thinking of joining in the latest 'Killer Clown' craze sweeping the country has been warned.

In a tweet, police in Taunton town centre said: "Mask seized from youth scaring chidlren.

"This behavior (sic) will not be tolerated. #SomersetAfterDark."

Avon and Somerset Police had already warned anyone joining in the 'clown craze', which originated in the USA, after receiving a "small number" of complaints.

The pranksters have been targeting members of the community and officers intervened in an attempt to stop it getting out of hand.

A force spokesman said: "We'd just like to remind people of the consequences of dressing up in costmues with the intention of frightening others.

"There have been several reports nationally of people dressed as clowns behaving in an anti-social and threatening manner.

"We've received a small number of similar reports locally and would like to remind people that this behaviour can cause concern and worry, particularly to young children and the elderly, and they may end up committing an offence."
