Deadline approaches to nominated people for the Somerset Anne Frank Awards

On Friday, December 16, any attending a Somerset school, college or youth group can be nominated for the group or individual award.

The winner from each category will have the chance to go to Anne Frank’s house in Amsterdam and will receive £100 and a glass trophy to keep for one year.

All nominees will receive a copy of Anne Frank’s diary and a trip to the National Holocaust Centre or the Imperial War Museum in London.

The awards is looking to honour young people who demonstrate person strength and conviction that deserve to be publicly recognised.

Leonard Daniels, chairman of the Somerset Anne Frank Awards, said: “The Somerset Anne Frank Awards recognise all the good work that the young people of Somerset do to show their care and concern for others in need.

“The awards, now in their 6th year, reward youngsters who actively oppose discrimination, bullying and prejudice and who deserve to be recognised.”

Last year’s winners were Kira Lewis from Castle School, who won the individual award, and LGBTEA from Bridgwater College won the group award.

Kira said: "I was incredibly honoured to win the Somerset Anne Frank Award, and the opportunities that came as a result of it have given me so much.

"Visiting the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam was humbling and poignant, and because of this, I would encourage all schools and youth groups to consider nominating a young person for the award."
