OWNERS of a pub that was recently devastated by fire are hosting a charity event in order to raise money for firefighters.

Tim Young and Jane Bishop’s received the devastating call telling them their pub, the Farmers Arms at Combe Florey, was on fire on Wednesday, January 11.

Fire crews were first called around 3.30pm but worked tirelessly throughout the night until the fire was put out.

Damage to the thatch roof was severe but it is believed the downstairs area of the pub was not badly affected.

Now, as a thank you to Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue, the pair will be hosting a charity night at neighbouring venue, Crowcombe Court.

Mr Young said: “We have a hog roast, live music and a full bar. All of the Farmers Arms staff will be there.

“The chefs are cooking the pig and bar staff are manning the bar.

“You can meet the team, listen to Xenos, one of our favourite bands, enjoy some ales and wines.

“We would like to say thank you and have teamed up with David and Kate Kenyon at Crowcombe Court to take the Farmers Arms on Tour.”

The event will take place on Friday night, the event will kick off from 5pm with last orders at 11.45pm.

The fundraiser is set to take place in the vaulted undercroft as the owner take the Farmers Arms on tour.

Work to repair the devastated pub is underway, while the couple are also planning to launch the rise of the Phoenix Inn outside the Farmers Arms, where they plan to build a temporary structure in which to continue serving customers.

The charity night will be entry by donation, with hog roast available for £4.

All profits from the night, including from the bar, will be donated to the Fire Fighters Charity.

Signs will be in place to direct people to the entrance.
