ANTIQUES Roadshow expert Dr Paul Atterbury entertained an audience of 140 guests with tales of the popular BBC programme at a charity dinner.

Dr Atterbury, who gave his services for free, was the star turn at the Rotary Club of Taunton Vale speaker dinner at Oake Manor Golf Club last Thursday.

The event raised £6,000 to be shared between Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, Taunton Opportunity Group and Rotary charities.

Dr Atterbury passed on anecdotes of his early interest in antiques and his subsequent career, including filming Antiques Roadshow, the thousands of objects taken by the public to be assessed and valued.

He said that a lot of his own enjoyment was to hear the family stories behind the items, much of which had not been told before in public.

He conducted an auction of promises to swell the proceeds of the evening.
