CREWSHIELD has received the Queen's Award for Enterprise in the international trade category.

It follows the company, whose operations centre is based in Taunton, scooping a Queen's Award for innovation last year.

The company manufactures and supplies worldwide safe havens for personnel operating in hostile environments, including to foreign governments, mining and oil companies and development agencies.

The Crewshield citadel looks like a standard shipping container and can protect people for up to 96 hours and allows occupants to communicate with the outside world.

Managing director Mike Samways, who was educated at Wellington School and Richard Huish College, said: "We're incredibly proud to have received recognition at this year's awards.

"We continue to innovate and grow the business - our hard work really has paid off."
