THIS summer spare a thought
For the lonesome bee
Flying for miles over deserts of green
To find his bloom.
This summer spare a moment
For the hungry swallow
Soaring for hours over deserts of green
To find her meal of insects.
This summer spare a minute
For the vanishing hedgehog
Crawling in vain through deserts of green
To find enough worms to feed on.
This summer spare a few seconds
For the dwindling wildflower
Marooned amidst the deserts of green
Waiting for her lonesome bee.
This summer spare soem time
For the once abundant butterfly
Flitting lonely over her poisoned land.
