ON a blisteringly hot Sunday afternoon more then 100 Milverton residents enjoyed a village picnic at the Recreation Ground.

It was part of the Great Get Together in memory of MP Jo Cox who was murdered a year ago.

Together under the welcome shade of a spreading oak tree the village community came together and had a fantastic time.

Old friends were met and new friendships forged under a cloudless sky in an event that brought out the best of village life.

Several people took along their vehicles for a classic car display, while there were games of boules, cricket, badminton and frisbee throwing.

The hosts, Milverton Recreation Ground Committee and Alive in Milverton, thank everyone who attended.

Co-organiser Gwil Wren said: "The Recreation Ground is a fantastic resource for Milverton and since the cricket team has stopped using it we have, with the committee, been looking for opportunities to bring people in and make the best use of it.

"The Great Get Together provided the spark and it has gone wonderfully well.

"We will certainly be looking at more events over the coming months."
