THE Conquest Centre has won an £850 Grid Community Award to create a nature and sensory garden at its site in Norton Fitzwarren, which houses 13 horses for riding by people with a disability.

Work has already started on the garden ahead of a cheque presentation next Tuesday.

The awards provide funds for projects that will help the environment and wildlife on land where Wessex Water's new infrastructure works are.

Rhoda Lock, the Conquest Centre's administrator, said: "We have a small area which will make a very suitable nature garden.

“The site will need to be cleared and the ground made level for wheelchairs.

"It is adjacent to woods and a stream so we hope to attract wildlife from that spot to our new garden.

"We want the children and community to be involved with the garden from the beginning so that the nature garden becomes a place that they and their families will enjoy whenever they come to the centre and where children can also play.

"Our Grid Community Award has meant that what was just a good idea can now become a reality and we are thrilled that Wessex Water is supporting our project in this way.”
