A FILLING station on the outskirts of Taunton is set to be demolished and rebuilt after planning permission was granted.

All the buildings at open-all-hours, seven days a week Taunton Deane Filling Station, at Deane Gate Avenue, will be bulldozed and replaced.

The new development will feature a shop; the relocation of the three petrol pump islands and canopy; a jet wash bay; relocation of two air/water bays; relocation of a cash point machine; 12 customer parking spaces; four cycle hoops; and three floodlights.

An officer's report to Taunton Deane Borough Council recommended conditional approval, saying: "The reinvigorated petrol filling station will complement adjoining businesses.

"The development is considered to be of an appropriate design, scale, layout and appearance and will not adversely affect visual amenity, highway safety, the viability or vitality of Taunton town centre."
