A CONVENIENCE store and newsagent has been told to up its game following a poor food hygience rating.
Inspectors concluded that McColl's, on Livingstone Way, off Bindon Road, Taunton, needed top make major improvements to the management of food safety.
Bosses have pledged to take immediate action after the failings in the system of checks to ensure food sold or served was safe to eat, that staff know about food safety and the food safety officer has confidence that standard will be maintained in the future.
A report from the Food Standards Agency also concluded that improvement was necessary in the areas of hygienic food handling and cleanliness and the condition of facilities and the building.
McColl's received a one rating - the scores range from 0 to 5.
A company spokeswoman said: "We pride ourselves in high standards of food safety and hygiene and are very disappointed to see these not being upheld on this occasion.
"We are taking immediate action to improve standards at the Taunton store."
