PUB operator Wetherspoon is flush with success after a couple of pubs showed it's worth spending a bit of money so customers can spend a penny in comfort.

Proving they are no loo-sers, the high standards in the toilets at The Coal Orchard, in Taunton, and the Duke of Wellington, in Minehead, have been recognised in the Loo of the Year Awards 2017.

Both won the highest possible platinum star rating from inspectors in the scheme, which aims to highlight and improve standards of 'away from home' toilet provision in the UK.

Inspectors gave the accolade which only goes to outlets with "exceptional toilets" following unannounced visits to the two pubs.

The WCs were judged against numerous criteria, including décor and maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, hand washing and drying equipment and overall management.

A joint statement managers Sharon Queen at The Coal Orchard and Mark Bouchier at the Duke of Wellington said: "We are delighted with the award.

"Staff at the pubs ensure the toilets are in first-class condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors."

Loo of the Year Awards 2017 managing director Mike Bone said: "The toilets at The Coal Orchard and the Duke of Wellington have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained.

"The pubs richly deserves their platinum awards – the highest individual award the judges can deliver."
