THE Green Party has announced its candidate for the next General Election in Taunton Deane.

Clive Martin will be standing for the third time, having contested the seat in 2015 and 2017, when Conservative Rebecca Pow was elected on both occasions.

Mr Martin polled 2,630 votes first time around and 1,151 in June this year.

He said: "I am proud and grateful that our local members have selected me again to represent them at the next General Election.

"The Tories have been in power for seven years now and in that time have managed to devastate our economy and our public services while greatly increasing the national debt.

"At the moment they are divided and confused on the vital question of Brexit.

"The Green Party calls for a further referendum when we know what Brexit actually means and that call is becoming increasingly popular.

"We are starting to see the devastating impact of climate change where the main parties are doing too little and too late.

"Climate change is the most crucial issue facing us and all of the peoples of the world and should be at the centre of our politics."

The next election is due to be held in 2022, although it could come sooner if Theresa May decides to go to the country earlier or her government collapses.
