EVERYONE has had a drunken night they wish they could forget.

But one man was left red faced after he sparked a missing person's search by leaving his clothes, phone and wallet on Burnham-on-Sea beach.

Burnham-on-Sea Coastguard were called at 3.24pm on Sunday (December 10)  to Burnham beach by police after a resident found some clothing, a mobile phone and a wallet.

With the weather taking a cold turn and snow falling, the Coastguard feared the man could be vulnerable or attempting to enter the water.

The crew looked through the belongings to find out the man's identity and scoured the beach in a bid to find him.

But to their surprise, the embarrassed man approached the team and said that the items were his.

A spokesman for Burnham Coastguard, said: "After a Christmas celebration the night before he had got a bit worse for wear and somehow lost his clothes, phone and wallet and had turned up at home in just boxer shorts.

"They may have been Christmas themed but that is unconfirmed.

"Thankfully he was ok and we all turned up to the items around the same time saving us carrying out a prolonged search."

The Coastguard has warned residents to be careful during the festive period and said 'alcohol and cold weather is not a good mix'.
