A THOUGHTFUL Taunton student held a birthday party with a difference - instead of presents, she wanted donations to charity.

Jessica Newbrook, eight, who goes to Bishops Henderson, held her birthday party but in place of presents, she asked her friends to make a donation to CLIC Sargent.

She hoped to raise £100 but instead managed to gather £250.

The kind pupil said: “When I asked all my friends to my birthday party I decided to ask them not to buy me any presents this year as I really have everything I need.

“Instead I asked everyone to make a donation to CLIC. I chose CLIC because it is a children’s charity and because it affects lots of families.”

CLIC Sargent fundraising engagement manager, Rachel Webster said: “The kindness that Jess has shown towards young lives facing cancer and her brilliant donation could make a big difference to local families this Christmas.

“A massive happy birthday and thank you to Jess.”
