MORE than £750,000 has been raised by a Taunton-based cancer charity since it linked up with the County Gazette.

The latest donations to the Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment include £4,000 from last week's Somerset Vintage and Classic Tractor Group from the proceeds of the Somerset Vintage and Classic Tractor Show at the Royal Bath and West Showground.

Also presented to SURE, which equips the Beacon Centre, at Musgrove Park Hospital, was £150 from John Winston, of Exeter, in lieu of birthday presents.

There was £285 from the House family, of Kingston St Mary, from their Carols in the Cattleshed, while villagers also collected £52 in 5p coins.

Other 5p collections were £12 from Maureen Maddocks; £11.55 from Andrew and Tina Potter, family and friends; £165.95 from Minster Pharmacy, in Ilminster; and £145.82 from the Beacon Centre was mainly in 5ps.

Collection pots totalled £21.25 at Minster Pharmacy; £20.28 from the Co-op, Monkton Heathfield; £95.03 from the Newsagents, Bishops Lydeard; £77.51 from Tesco Express, Comeytrowe; £20.23 from the Hungry Horse, Stonegallows; £15.37 from the Constitutional Club, Bishop's Hull; and £92.57 from Tesco Express, East Reach.

Left at the Beacon Centre was £171.95 from Charlotte Troupe, of Wellington, and there was an anonymous donation of £2.70.

The weekly total of £5,339.21 means the total raised since SURE linked up with the Gazette now stands at £752,080.70.
