MCDONALD'S is investigating claims a customer found used needles in the toilets of Taunton's town centre branch.

The man, who wished to be anonymous, claimed he visited the East Street branch and used the toilet facilities but, to his shock, found used needles discarded inside.

"I popped in and went to use the toilet," He said.

"But when I saw the needles, I immediately went to tell a member of staff.

"When I told them I was answered with 'well what can we do about it', and I suggested using a blue light bulb which makes it more difficult for people to use needles as it prevents veins from showing up.

"A week later, I went back to ask if they had changed the bulbs, and they said that if they did that, they would be acknowledging that there was a problem with people taking drugs at the restaurant.

"I don't think that's the case, I don't see what the problem is.

"Most people wouldn't even know what the blues lights are for, they'll just think 'oh it's a funny blue light', and the ones that do would be glad that something is being done to tackle the problem.

"Children go into those toilets.

"Next time you could walk in to find a body on the floor."

The Taunton branch claims to have no knowledge of the incident, but says it will be investigating it 'as a matter of urgency'.

A spokesman for McDonald's said: “We are not aware of this particular incident taking place in our Taunton restaurant, however, we take any customer complaints of this nature extremely seriously and are investigating as a matter of urgency.

"We will be consulting with the relevant security personnel and will take any further action that is required.”
