A POWER cut earlier this afternoon (Thursday) affected 1,000 homes and businesses in Taunton.

The electricity was lost over a large area, including the traffic lights at the Creech Castle junction, homes, and businesses at Prioswood industrial estate and Hankridge, at 4.13pm.

A Western Power Distribution spokeswoman said: "We restored the supply to 869 customers within two minutes.

"Some others were back on as of 5.05pm. Six customers are still affected.

"We think an underground cable failed and our engineers will be working to get the reamining customers back on supply as soon as possible."
