PEOPLE can cast their eyes over plans to convert a former NHS premises into a retirement complex.

A three-day public exhibition of the proposals at Lyngford House, off Selworthy Road, Taunton, is being held from Thursday (May 24).

Visitors will be able to inspect the final designs for the redevelopment and refurbishment of the listed premises and surrounding buildings, which will include 45 assisted living homes. There will also be an opportunity to make comments.

Property company Quantum Group, which bought the site from the NHS for £1.1 million, has submitted a planning application to Taunton Deane Borough Council.

The firm is looking to provide three one-bedroom apartments on the upper floor of the listed main house, along with communal facilities on the ground floor, including a dining room, bar, activity rooms, treatment room, communal lounges, a library and IT room.

A three-storey extension would contain six two-bedroom apartments, while the listed coach house and stables would features three two-bedroom houses.

There would also be 15 two-bedroom houses and 18 three-bedroom houses in the grounds, as well as 37 car parking spaces and landscaped features.

The exhibition at Lyngford House is taking place on:

  • Thursday, May 24, from 2pm to 6 pm;
  • Friday, May 25, from 2pm to 7pm;
  • and Saturday, May 26, from 9am to 1pm.

Bournemouth-based Quantum Group is also developing a nine-storey care home complex across town on the site of the former Quantock House, in Paul Street.

The former Government department tower block, which had been empty for several years, has been demolished in reparation for construction work.
