TAUNTON MP Jeremy Browne has been on patrol with the police in the Halcon area of Taunton.

His visit follows a burglary and the announcement that new CCTV cameras will be installed on the estate, both reported in last week’s County Gazette.

Mr Browne said: “The well-publicised burglary with knives in Halcon has caused understandable concern.

“The police have assured me they believe it was an isolated incident which isn’t indicative of a wider threat to the public.

“I obviously hope they’re right and that the offenders are brought to justice.

“The more routine issue that is a constant problem in many communities is lower-level crime and anti-social behaviour.

“I’m pleased Taunton Deane and Somerset County Councils are funding new CCTV cameras in Halcon.”

Mr Browne praised police weekly drop-in sessions at the Link Centre, regular foot patrols and presences at Halcon Primary School, Asda and other community focal points.

He added: “High-profile policing helps to tackle behaviour like vandalism, graffiti and late-night noise.

“Every resident in every Taunton Deane community deserves to feel safe.

“I will continue to support practical measures which cut crime and make our area feel more secure.”
