A COMMUNITY garden is being created in Priorswood to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee after a bid for funding was successful.

The North Taunton Partnership received £13,000 to kick-start the project that will be opened to the public on June 2 with an official unveiling ceremony.

The garden, near to the Priorswood Community Centre, has been designed by landscape architect Steve Swan to include communal seating areas, various planting schemes and some community art installations.

The grant came from regeneration company St Modwen, who are responsible for the Firepool scheme in Taunton, with another £10,000 coming from the Big Lottery Fund.

Sue Kilbey, chairman of the North Taunton Partnership, said: “The garden is something we have been planning in the area for the past year and it is fantastic that we are at the construction stage.”

Ian Guy, senior development manager for St Modwen, added: “We are delighted to be able to support such a great community project here in Taunton.”
