Taunton Flower Show - second day today

THE second day of Taunton Flower Show gets underway today (Saturda, August 4), when thousands more visitors are expected when the gates open at 10am.

As well as the various classes, guests will be treated to a programme of entertainment, including a dog display team, sheep show, sea cadets, dog and duck show, beekeepers demonstration and a stunt company.

Music will be supplied by the Yorkshire Volunteer Marching Band and a Ready Steady Garden competition is being run.

The show closes at 6pm.

A post-show music extravaganza featuring electric string and vocal quartet Blayz is being laid on in the big tent in the park at 8pm on Sunday.

£12 entry fee for a small show such as Taunton is far too much.

Sorry but what with all the attractions that price is more than justified. The sheep shearing show was just hilarious. The stampede with jousters in full armour and wonderful horses was brilliant. The marching bands and the dogs perhaps not to my taste but the whole show was wonderful. So much effort and talent by so many people. We're going back today to see more and at no further cost. Our grandchildren were able to exhibit their first ever show and the helpers in the children's classes were super. I am not a gardener but just love the atmosphere and the enthusiasm. What do you expect for the price of 4 pints of beer or 30 cigarettes. It is only £9 on Saturday, less for concessions and children under 17 are free, when accompanied by a fee paying adult. Get real, mark1437

and what do you mean by "small show". It is not Chelsea, but is older, and fills Vivary Park. The show was packed and the new exit route for vehicles a treat and well directed, though still busy

To Anonone, 'GET REAL' is a comment you addressed to me because I disagree with your view. Do you always insult people who have a different to you? If you do you are a bad example to your grandchildren. I can afford £12 but many people can not.

The comment you made was an insult to all the hard working and mostly volunteer people who have strived to present a wonderful show for the best possible value. There are many things in life that the vast majority of people, including myself, cannot afford to buy. The best advice is then to do without. You can't please all the people all of the time. Your mail intimated, IMHO, that the Show wasn't worth the money. IMHO and, I guess, those of the thousands of visitors that return year after year you are wrong, and your comment totally unnecessary.
As to any example I set my grandchildren you are not in a position to judge. I think you will find that the words I used were far more common even in the very young than you seem to imagine. 10 years ago you would possibly have been right to be miffed but not these days. To suit your delicate nature should I say that I think your comment was terribly, terribly unfair, old man.

Having attended may local shows and attractions £12 is good value and compares to last weeks Mid Devon Show.

It appears a bargain when compared to the £18 for the Devon County Show and £19 for the Bath and West Show.

Well done to all involved in putting on this show.

Normally there's a choice: pay the asking price or allow the Show to disappear through lack of funds. The price is set by those who have great experience in organising the oldest Show in the country. I would like it to be free, all the entertainers to give their services free, and all the other providers not to charge but then I believe in fairies
Thankyou to all for a quite wonderful Show and for coping with the weather yet again, although that could have been worse
