Paralympics - Lucy Shuker into wheelchair tennis quarter-finals

Lucy Shuker Lucy Shuker

PARALYMPIC wheelchair tennis star Lucy Shuker continued her Paralympic Games adventure by reaching the quarter-finals at the Olympic Park today.

The 32-year-old who trains in Taunton cruised into the last eight courtesy of a comprehensive 6-0, 6-2 victory over America’s Emmy Kaiser at Eton Manor.

Shuker will now face Dutch World No.3 Jiske Griffioen for a place in semi-final and admitted she will have to up her game even further in order to progress.

She said: “I’m ready for that step up in class but I will just play my own game, keep to my strategy and with the crowd behind me, I’m confident that I can win.

“To be fair to Emmy I think the crowd got to her a bit and obviously they were right behind me so I loved the experience on Centre Court again.

“I felt more at home out there than I did in my first round and the conditions were just perfect for tennis with very little wind and beautiful sunshine.”
