Tony Brooker (branch standard bearer), Geoffrey Durrant, Ken Tate (secretary) and Tina Stodgell at the war memorial.
NEARLY 100 years on and the name of a World War I veteran has been added to the war memorial in the village this week.
Charles William Stodgell, of The Devonshire Regiment, had his name engraved on to the memorial by sculptor Phillip Chatfield.
Mr Stodgell lived in North Curry at Borough Post and great nephew and his wife Tony and Tina Stodgell, of Wrantage, followed up the possibility of adding his name to the memorial.
Tina, who is also chairman of North Curry parish council, said they were both very pleased when both the council and British Legion agreed to add the name.
Chairman of the North Curry branch for the British Legion, Brig Geoffrey Durrant said: “The reason his name was overlooked was because he didn’t die during the war but because he died through injuries sustained while on duty during the war it was acceptable to add his name to the list.”
