Lights down to save money

Lights down to save money Lights down to save money

STREET lights in and around Taunton could be dimmed to half their usual brightness to save money.

Lights in Silk Mills Road, Bishop’s Hull, parts of the A358 and Toneway are among those which could be affected.

How about lowering the water levels in the municipal swimming pools?

This would save the unneccesary expense of heating and treating the water...as such sheer profligacy should be utterly frowned upon, in this Age of Austerity...

Better still remove ALL the water in the swimming pools with the additional cost-savings to be made by removing the unnecessary pool maintenance.

This should be rapidly followed by a staff-reduction feasability study, with a firm commitment that all redundant staff will be supported into one of Cameron's many 'work programme' opportunities.

Of course, there may initially be a few selfish moaning minnies whom unreasonably complain that they find it difficult to swim in a pool without water.

These old-fashioned whingers must understand however, that a modern and dynamic, go ahead capitalist economy must respond flexibly to global demands and if this means providing street lights that are dimmed or turned off at night and swimming pools without water, then so be it: for this is the 'Modern Way' of modern day capitalism.

These doggy-paddling dissidents should also understand that the billionaires in society need even more money than they already have and it's the millions who have to continue to make the commensurate sacrifices in this Age of Austerity.

Let us all remember the main maxim of the coalition:

"We are all in it together"....

....apart from the swimming pool, that is....obviously!

Try switching all the lights off at the two park and ride facilities in Taunton at night that should save a few quid.
May i also suggest that the street lights outside all the councillors addresses get dimmed first please.

If this had been done without anyone mentioning it I would gamble that not many would have noticed!

Most people in the leafy suburbs of Taunton do not think that the lighting is sufficient anyway otherwise they would not have blinding security lights in their driveways....

And the first posters ramblings make no sense in relation to the article.....but hey ho freedom of speech.

Quite how we have evolved into a society that demands permanent light in our neighbourhoods is beyond me. What's wrong with it being dark at night?

Pretty sure if the street lights were billed directly to those houses benefitting then they'd be off in a jiffy.

Turn them off, no street lights where I live, we manage, no security lights either.
