A SCHEME to help students, job seekers and employers has been launched at Somerset College’s new Work Academy.

Employers and partners attended a drop-in breakfast at Taunton Conference Centre on Wednesday to talk to staff and find out how the initiative will help them recruit employees fully prepared for the world of work.

Led by manager Sarah Smith, the Work Academy includes experienced recruitment consultants and also provides careers guidance and advice.

She said: “We aim to be flexible and very focused on how and what we deliver, working closely with employers to meet their needs and matching these with the college’s qualified students as well as others on employability programmes.”

The Work Academy will also run courses on job search and interview skills, and employability skills.

It will work closely with employers and partners such as Job Centres, to recruit full-time and part-time Somerset College students who have completed their courses; the college’s students who are seeking internships as part of their courses; people involved in Employability programmes; people not in employment, education or training (NEETs).
