THE mum of a five-year-old girl who died in a horrific crash will take on a Royal Marines endurance challenge in her memory.
Charlene Jeffries will tackle a 3k run and 4k assault course, followed by another 3k run, at Woodbury Common, Devon, to raise money in memory of Norton Fitzwarren Primary School pupil Lily-Mae Jeffries and two charities close to the family’s hearts.
Charlene and husband John, a sergeant with 40 Commando , lost Lily-Mae as she, her two sisters and great-grandmother, were in collision with two motorbikes on a break in Weymouth on March 11 this year.
The group of nearly 40 other people are called Lily’s Sparkle Helpers because the week before she died Lily wrote a story about a girl called Lily and a fairy called Sparkle – a story also included in the order of service at Lily’s funeral.
Charlene said: “We were amazed and touched with all the support we’ve had for this.
“This encompasses what Lily-Mae was all about – getting hands on and dirty, being with groups of people and having fun.”
The family hope to raise as much money as possible for the Devon Air Ambulance and Royal Marine charity C Group.
