UKHO deputy role for Tom Karsten

Tom Karsten Tom Karsten

COMMODORE Tom Karsten, right, is the next UK National Hydrographer deputy chief executive (hydrography), based in Taunton.

He will be integral in continuing the key role the UK Hydrographic Office plays in working with the International Hydrographic Community, leading on defence matters and discharging the Government’s responsibilities for the safety of life at sea.

The 51-year-old joined the Royal Navy in 1979, served in a senior role in the Gulf War and has commanded a number of ships.

He was promoted to Navy Command’s deputy commander operations and took up his current appointment as Commander British Forces Gibraltar two years ago.

He replaces Rear Admiral Nick Lambert in December.
