STAFF at a Wellington care home have been given an award for the standard of care they offer the residents and their families.

Chelston Gardens in Chelston was among 30 homes from across the country to receive a Quality Hallmark Award from training provider the National Gold Standards Framework Centre at the annual GSF Conference in London.

Deborah Judd, training manager at the 50-bed dementia unit, said: “We are committed to making our residents’ stay as perfect as possible, however long it might be – caring for them in the way we would want to be cared for ourselves.

“GSF has made all of our staff, including the domestics, feel more confident about having difficult conversations with our residents and their families about the care they want and where they want to be cared for.

“This, in turn, means we are now always prepared and can avoid crises and unnecessary hospital admissions, making the last months of their lives as valuable as possible.

“We are very proud to have received the GSF award and it’s down to the hard work and dedication of the whole team.”
