SKATEBOARD fans in Wellington now have a place they can meet up and chat whatever the weather thanks to a new youth shelter provided by Taunton Deane Council.
The hugely popular park, next to the sports centre, attracts fans from the town and further afield and while they love the facilities they spotted the need for a shelter.
As a result Cllrs Vivienne Stock-Williams and Janet Reed, who represent Wellington wards, made sure that the £8,500 needed was found from developer contributions to the new housing at Cades Farm.
Consultations were held with the skatepark users to come up with a design and it is now in regular use.
Cllr Stock-Williams, a former Mayor of Wellington, said: “The skatepark has been really popular since it opened but the users did see there was a need for a shelter where they could sit and chat with their friends.
“It’s a simple but effective design and we have heard that the users think it’s brilliant.”
