A CAMPAIGN group is calling on people to formally object to plans for a huge housing development in Wellington before the January 8 deadline.

Save Wellington members are opposed to the building of 650 homes by CG Fry and Son on the Jurston Farm site on the south side of the town.

The developers submitted plans for outline planning permission to Taunton Deane Borough Council towards the end of the year.

And the protesters are concerned the Christmas/New Year break might mean people forget to lodge their objections until it is too late.

A spokesman said: “We have held a number of public events so far and, on every occasion, the support we have received has been overwhelming.

“People just do not want another huge development in Wellington because the town is already is being swamped by the hundreds of homes being built at Cades and Longforth Farm.

“Now we need everyone to show their support in the most meaningful way possible – by formally objecting to the Jurston plans.”

“It’s time for us to say once and for all that enough is enough – Wellington rejects this development and Taunton Deane Borough Council should refuse it”

At the start of December, banner-waving protesters brought town centre traffic to a standstill as they marched along the A38.

The previous month, Save Wellington’s day of action saw more than 300 people sign up in support of the campaign in only three hours.

And, in October, over a 100 people packed into Wellesley Park Primary School for a protest meeting staged by the group.

“We will keep fighting,” added the spokesman. “Our campaign will continue to the bitter end.”

The Jurston plans can be viewed at the Wellington Town Council Offices in Fore Street, Wellington, or the Deane Council Offices in Belvedere Road, Taunton.

Save Wellington will be in the Town Centre on January 3 to hand out leaflets and advise people to attend the Wellington Town Council Meeting on January 8.

This meeting has been arranged by the Town Council specifically to discuss the Jurston Farm Planning Application.

The venue will be the United Reform Church Hall in Fore Street, Wellington at 7pm.
