A CHARITY fundraising site set up in memory of the son of a Wellington School teacher has achieved record success.

The Just Giving page was in the top 5% of fund raising pages, raising over £2,500 for the charity Brake.

The fundraising took place in memory of Ross Paterson who was tragically killed in a road traffic collision in last March.

Ross was the son of a Gerry Paterson – a much loved teacher at Wellington School.

Mr Paterson’s Tutor Group wanted to do something positive in Ross’s memory to show their support of the family.

They organised a ‘Onesies and Wellies Powerwalk’ around the school campus and, in doing so, raised the fantastic amount.

Kate Hodson, a teaching colleague of Gerry Paterson at Wellington School, said: “Though undoubtedly a tragic and traumatic time, the Wellington School community (pupils, parents, teachers, staff and old pupils) pulled together with the hope that something good could have come out of Ross’s death.

“We hope that the road safety charity Brake will be able to use the money to continue their good work in helping other families suffering a similar experience alongside working to prevent such devastating accidents happening."

The family of Ross went on to set up 'Get Home Safe', a charity dedicated to ensuring the safety of young people travelling home after a night out.
