A MUSIC school from Wiveliscombe has been awarded over £300 by the Parish Council to buy soundproofing for the scout hut they use for their classes.

High Park Music School has been awarded £353 in funding by Wiveliscombe Parish Council – and a spokesperson for the school said: “Many thanks to Wiveliscombe Parish Council, from High Park Music, for this cheque of £353 to buy soundproofing for the scout hut where the music school takes place every Saturday.

“This is our youngest group who will be playing with the older children on Saturday May 9 at Cotford St Luke’s first street fair.”

The High Park Community Project seeks to regenerate music-making in Wiveliscombe and local rural villages, offering children the opportunity to learn in a group.

Cost is kept to £2 per session which includes the provision of a wind instrument.

The project aims to inspire a love of music and nurture individual creativity - and is sustained by income generated through textile recycling, gathered from the local community.

It is the inspiration of professional music teachers, Hilary Wickham and Louise Toomer who have a wealth of musical experience between them.

They share a passionate belief that every child should have the opportunity to access music.

There are now 30 children engaged in regular musical learning and performance within the project.

Project offers children from within the 10 Parishes surrounding Wiveliscombe in Somerset an affordable opportunity to learn to play Clarinet, Flute or Saxophone in a band.

High Park Music Project meets at the Scout Hut which is in Old Brewery Road, off Ford Road, Wiveliscombe.
