BUSINESSES, shops and organisations are being encouraged to get involved in the first Wellington Boot Walking Trail to mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo.

Organised by Point Three and supporting Wellington in Bloom, it is hoped that various venues around the town will help to mark the special event by getting involved in the trail and placing a commemorative Wellington Boot sign or planter in or outside their premises.

The aim is to have the Wellington Boot signs and planters distributed in various places around the town for people to find to attract visitors to the town and increase footfall during the summer months.

Point Three director Peter Watts said: “We hope to emulate the success of the Dragon Trail around Taunton Deane while marking this important 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo.

“The Wellington Boot planters and signs are of the traditional boot actually worn by the Duke of Wellington who was famous for the defeat of Napoleon in 1815.

“We want to see as many businesses and organisations get involved with this to sponsor a sign or planter and proudly put these on display to get people talking and walking.”

Those wishing to take part are being asked for sponsorship of £25 for a sign and £45 for a planter.

The sponsor’s name and a number will be attached to the front of these and will also feature on the walking trail booklets as well as other publicity.

Leaflets inviting shops and companies to sponsor the boots are being distributed around the town.

Anybody who would like a sign or planter is asked to contact Peter Watts on 07761 485657 or email manager@pointthree.org.uk
