PLANS for this September’s Ten Parishes Festival are beginning to take shape following a fascinating range of artist registrations.

Although the deadline for more artists, whether visual or performing, has been extended slightly until the end of May, there is much behind the scenes work in sorting through submissions and ideas.

One new participant is the village of Raddington, which officially is part of Chipstable parish.

Many people locally will know of the Grade One listed 13th century church that seems to stand as an emblem against modernity, both amongst fields and without electricity – the organist reliant on a rare foot-pumping harmonium.

Festival Director, Pauline Homeshaw said: “We have an exciting range of themes and venues, some of which are still being negotiated.

“Keep an eye on the Festival website for new announcements during the Spring and Summer.

“If you have a sudden desire to get involved, then do make contact as soon as possible.”

A Festival of Music including concerts, activities and talks will take place on the second weekend of the festival, September 12 and 13.

Nine events ranging from dancing to performances from choirs, bands and soloists – both instrumental and vocal - are planned both at the church and the rectory barn.

As well as stimulating interest and raising the profile of existing artists, the 10 Parishes Festival also very much seeks to assist and promote new talent.

The organisers are leading by example this year as the updated Festival identity has been created by a new member of the Festival team, Aga Karmolinska, who is a graphic designer.

A novel elephant theme alludes to the popular visual arts element whilst also highlighting performance.

Previous visitors to the Street Market and Carnival Parade on the first Sunday of the Festival will have experienced what an exciting and joyous celebration of all things entertainment this is.
