DARING unicyclist Ed Pratt is now nearly ten weeks into his one-wheel round-the-world adventure and has just arrived in Serbia – much to the amusement of the county’s border control staff.

Former Wellington School student Ed, 19, is hoping to raise £7,500 for the Somerset-based School in a Bag charity and his adventure will take him through China, Australia and North America - before heading back to Europe and cycling up through Portugal, Spain and France and arriving back in the UK.

But his arrival in Serbia left the staff working at the Hungary/Serbia border ‘bemused’ and amazed at the journey had has undertaken – and the one that lies ahead.

On Ed’s World Unicycle Tour Facebook page, he wrote: “I've hit Serbia - the guys working at the border control seemed a bit bemused when I rolled up: “You came from England on that?" they said.

“I entered (Serbia) yesterday and my experience so far has been very positive.

“The roads here are fantastic, minus the crazy drivers - and the people have been incredible generous.

“Yesterday I was given strawberries at midday, ice cream in the afternoon and pancakes in the evening - wow, I'm just being overwhelmed with generosity.”

Ed’s sister, Sam, joined him for the Bratislava to Budapest leg of the journey just over a week ago – but chose two wheels rather than one for her mode of travel.

Ed posted on May 12: “My sister, Sam, joined me from Bratislava to Budapest over the last few days - she rode on a bike which performed perfectly over the 170 miles.

“I enjoy riding alone, but it made a nice change to share the experience of touring with my big sis.

“We camped every night - which was a bit of a squeeze in my tent - in friendly people’s gardens and even found a park with a fire pit last night.”
